Kodak Pixpro AZ405 Review

written by RichCat06 on February 2, 2025

These days, dedicated cameras are not very popular, with many just opting to use their phones to take pictures. However, when it comes to photography, it's important to have access to the best cameras and gear possible. There are not very many brands making bridge cameras these days, but Kodak still makes them, and that's what we're reviewing today. This camera touts 40x optical zoom with image stabilization, 1080p video at 30FPS, and a photo resolution of 20MP. That sounds pretty promising, but the question here is, "how does it perform?" Well, we're gonna answer that question and many others. So, without further ado, let's see what this thing is capable of!

Picture Quality

The picture quality in the sunlight is pretty good. Almost looks like it was taken with an iPhone. The camera struggles with low light levels. Although, for the price (around $200,) it's pretty impressive what it's capable of. I find that it takes the best pictures in Manual Mode. The color accuracy is par for the course. It doesn't look oversaturated or over-processed, which is perfect for someone just starting out in photography, as they can learn how to post-process their photos to get a good result (I recommend RawTherapee for post-processing.)

Zoom

The optical zoom on this camera is AMAZING!!! I was able to take a pretty good close-up picture of the moon with this camera. The pictures look pretty solid even when taken at max zoom. They don't look soft at all. The autofocus does get a bit slow to respond when at max zoom though, so it may take a bit of effort to get a good picture at max zoom.

Video Quality

The video quality at the 1080p setting is pretty good. There are several different video quality settings you can shoot at with this camera. These include 1080p at 30FPS, 720p at 60FPS, 720p at 30FPS, 480p at 30FPS for DVD and VGA, and 480p at 120FPS. The microphone quality is pretty good, but is only mono, so you'll only get audio out of one channel.

Conclusion

Despite its shortcomings, this camera is incredibly good for the price. If you're just getting started with photography, this camera might just be the best way to do it without dipping into buying pre-owned equipment.
